How Numerology works
Numerology combines numerology and astrology:
Western (Pythagorean) numerology turns your birth date and name into "core" numbers, and the calendar date into "cycle" numbers.
Western astrology gives your Sun sign: the zodiac sign the Sun was in when you were born.
Planetary hours, from ancient astrology, give each hour of the day a ruling planet.
Use ⚙ at the top to choose what you see: numerology, astrology or both. You're asked once on your first visit, and the choice is saved on this device.
It has these tabs:
Harmony: how well a day or hour fits you, with what is traditionally suggested and not suggested.
Partner Harmony: how two people get along, by their Life Path numbers and Sun signs.
Guide: this page, with how every number is calculated, the sources, and what the app adds.
The numerology and planetary-hour calculations follow published traditions. The scores are this app's own invention, marked Numerology below, because no tradition defines a numeric score.
The readings are for reflection and inspiration. See About these readings at the end.
Letters, digits and reduction
Reduction
Almost every number is "reduced": add its digits together, and repeat until one digit is left.
1985 → 1+9+8+5 = 23 → 2+3 = 5
Master numbers 11, 22, 33
If a final result is 11, 22 or 33, it is kept rather than reduced. These "master numbers" are seen as stronger versions of 2, 4 and 6, and are shown in gold. Parts of a calculation are always reduced fully, so masters only appear in final results. When comparing numbers in the scores, a master counts as its root: 11 as 2, 22 as 4, 33 as 6.
Letter values (Pythagorean table)
Letters are numbered 1–9 in alphabet order, then the count starts again. Accents are removed first, so Á counts as A and Ľ as L. Vowels are A, E, I, O and U; Y counts as a consonant.
Core numbers
These come from your birth details and never change. The examples use a made-up person, Anna Nováková, born 14 July 1985.

Master numbers
11, 22 and 33 are called master numbers: when a total reaches one of them, it is kept instead of being reduced. They're written with their base number, for example 22/4, because a master number is understood as a heightened form of that base: 11 of 2, 22 of 4 and 33 of 6.
The idea of master numbers belongs to modern numerology of the 20th century. 11 and 22 appear in the early modern books, while 33 was added later and is not used by every author.
Two ways to add up a birth date. Numerology books use two methods for the Life Path, and they give the same result most of the time, but not always for master numbers:
Adding every digit at once, e.g. 25 September 1959: 9 + 2 + 5 + 1 + 9 + 5 + 9 = 40 → 4. This simpler method is found especially in older and introductory books.
Reducing the month, day and year separately, then adding them: 9 + 7 (25) + 6 (1959 → 24 → 6) = 22. Modern authors such as Juno Jordan and Hans Decoz use this method, because it treats the month, day and year as three separate cycles of life and lets master numbers show.
The app uses the second method, like most current numerology books and apps. If an older calculation gave you 4 where the app shows 22/4, both describe the same base: the 22 adds a layer on top of the 4.
How much weight to give them. A master number is best read as an extra layer of potential rather than a different number. Most numerologists say it's demanding and lived mostly through its base number, especially early in life. So the app treats it as a note on top of the base: the Harmony and Partner Harmony scores use the base number (22 counts as 4), and the readings add what the master number brings.
Number meanings
On the Harmony tab, the rows below your core numbers open a longer reading for each one: what the position means, the number's character, what it says in that position, and its gifts and challenges. These readings are the app's own summaries of how modern numerology books commonly describe the numbers (see Sources), not quotations from them.
Planets linked to you
Ruling planet comes from your Life Path, using Cheiro's number–planet table: 1 Sun, 2 Moon, 3 Jupiter, 4 Uranus, 5 Mercury, 6 Venus, 7 Neptune, 8 Saturn, 9 Mars.
Birth weekday planet: each weekday has a ruling planet (see planetary hours). Born on a Sunday means a Sun day.
Birth planetary hour: the planetary hour you were born in. It needs your birth time. With a birth place, the app uses the real sunrise there and that place's time zone on your birth date, including summer time in that year. Without one it assumes sunrise at 06:00 and reads the time in this device's time zone. If you don't know your birth time, tick Don't know: the birth hour and birth place are then left out.
Personal cycles
These change with the calendar. Each builds on the one above it: Year → Month → Day. The example uses today's date for someone born on 14 July.
Cycle
Formula
What it means
Personal Year
Birth month + birth day + current year (each reduced first)
The theme of the calendar year. Personal Years run in a 9-year cycle from new beginnings (1) to completion (9). In this app it changes on 1 January; some schools change it on your birthday instead.
Personal Month
Personal Year + calendar month
The theme of the month, inside the year.
Personal Day
Personal Month + day of the month
Your energy for one specific date. The scores are built mostly on it.
Universal Day
All digits of the date added and reduced
The energy of the date for everyone; it doesn't use your birth date.

Planetary hours
This system is about 2,000 years old. It is also why the weekdays have planet names: in English Sunday (Sun), Monday (Moon) and Saturday (Saturn), and in French the rest too: mardi (Mars), mercredi (Mercury), jeudi (Jupiter) and vendredi (Venus).
How the hours are made
The time from sunrise to sunset is split into 12 equal "day hours", and from sunset to the next sunrise into 12 "night hours". So in winter the day hours are short and the night hours long, and in summer the reverse. These are not clock hours.
The first hour after sunrise belongs to the planet that rules the weekday.
Each following hour goes to the next planet in the Chaldean order, the ancient order from slowest to fastest-moving as seen from Earth: Saturn → Jupiter → Mars → Sun → Venus → Mercury → Moon, then back to Saturn.
After 24 steps the sequence lands on the next day's ruler. That's how the week order (Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn) came about.
Sunrise and sunset are calculated from your location with the standard sunrise equation, based on Jean Meeus's methods. They're accurate to a minute or two. Set your location with the 📍 button in the date bar: search for a city or use your device's location. It's saved on this device and used for every profile. Without a location, sunrise is assumed at 06:00 and sunset at 18:00. Times are shown in this computer's time zone unless you pick another one.
Choosing a time zone
The date bar has a time zone picker. It is useful when a VPN or a trip means the clock that matters isn't your computer's. Changing it recalculates the whole app for that zone:
All clock times: sunrise, sunset and planetary hours.
Which date counts as "today", so the Personal Day, the scores and the calendar follow the new zone. Near midnight this can move you to a different day.
Your choice is remembered on this browser. Auto follows the computer. The sunrise itself still comes from your location setting, so set the location to where the hours should be calculated. Each hours header shows the zone's offset for that day (for example "UTC+2").
The list of hours on the Harmony tab is hidden until you tick Show planetary hours; Show descriptions adds what each hour is traditionally good for. Both choices are remembered on this device.
Each planetary hour also gets an hour number: your Personal Day plus the planet's number, reduced. For example, on a Personal Day 6 the Jupiter hour (3) has the number 6 + 3 = 9.
Planets
"Rank" is the traditional standing of each planet. Ptolemy and later astrologers called Jupiter the Greater Fortune and Venus the Lesser Fortune (the benefics), and Saturn the Greater Malefic and Mars the Lesser Malefic. The Sun and Moon are the two luminaries, and Mercury takes on the nature of whatever it is near. "Good for" and "Avoid" summarize traditional electional astrology, the practice of choosing times by planet.
Zodiac signs
As the Earth travels around the Sun, the Sun seems to move through the stars along a path called the ecliptic. Western astrology divides this path into twelve equal signs of 30°, counted from the spring equinox. Your Sun sign is the sign the Sun was in at the moment you were born, and it's shown at the top of the Harmony tab.
Worked out exactly
Most lists use fixed dates, such as Aries from 21 March. In reality the Sun enters each sign at a slightly different moment every year, up to a day apart. So the app calculates where the Sun was for your birth date, using Jean Meeus's formulas, which place a change of sign to within about 15 minutes.
Born on the cusp: if the Sun changed sign on your birthday and your birth time isn't entered, the app shows the sign from the usual dates, mentions the other one, and says when the change happened. If you know you're the other sign, choose it with one tap; adding your birth time settles it exactly.
Close to the cusp: with a birth time, the sign is exact. If you were born within an hour of a change, the app mentions it, since many astrologers say you may recognise traits of both signs.
The birth time is read in your birth place's time zone (see Core numbers), or in this device's time zone if no place is entered.
Moon and Rising signs
Your Sun sign is one of three signs astrologers look at first, often called the "big three". All three are shown on your profile card:
☉ Sun sign: who you are at heart.
☽ Moon sign: the sign the Moon was in when you were born, showing your feelings and what makes you feel at home. The Moon passes through a sign in about two and a half days, so the birth date is often enough. If the Moon changed sign on your birthday, the app shows both signs until you add your birth time.
↑ Rising sign (Ascendant): the sign rising on the eastern horizon at the moment and place of your birth, showing how you come across. It changes about every two hours, so it needs both your birth time and your birth place.
The Moon's position comes from Jean Meeus's lunar formulas, accurate to a few hundredths of a degree, and the Rising sign from the sky's rotation at your birth place. When either sits close to a change of sign, the app says so, because a birth time a few minutes off can tip it into the next sign.
The daily reading on the Harmony tab also shows the Moon's sign that day, and when it moves into the next one. Hover over or tap it to see the mood it's traditionally linked with.
Elements and qualities
Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius): energy, enthusiasm and courage.
Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn): practical sense, patience and stability.
Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius): ideas, communication and connection.
Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces): feeling, intuition and care.
Each element has three signs with different qualities: Cardinal signs start things, Fixed signs keep them going, and Mutable signs adapt and change them.
The twelve signs
The ruling planets follow Ptolemy's tradition. Modern astrology adds Uranus, Neptune and Pluto as rulers of Aquarius, Pisces and Scorpio, shown as "modern". Dates are the usual ones; your own sign is calculated exactly.
The constellations
The signs take their names from the constellations the Sun passed through when the zodiac was first described, about 2,000 years ago. Western astrology ties the signs to the seasons rather than to the stars, so the drawings show each sign's namesake constellation. The app draws them from the positions of each constellation's brightest stars; brighter stars are larger, and the brightest are gold.
Harmony
Harmony is about you. It asks: how well does this day or hour fit your personal numbers, and what is it traditionally good for?
Friendly numbers
Many numerology books describe some numbers as "friendly" (in harmony) with each other. Books disagree on the exact pairs; this table is a common version. The scores use it as a match value:
Same number: 1 (full match)
Friendly number: 0.6

Moon phases
Hours and calendar
With Astrology only, each planetary hour scores higher when its planet rules your Sun sign (most), your Moon or Rising sign, or is a benefic (Jupiter or Venus); the Sun and Moon count as friendly and Mercury as neutral. As with Harmony, the hour score is 60% the hour and 40% the day. The calendar is coloured by the Sky score and shows the Moon's sign for each day.
Daily influences
Below the day's reading, Influences breaks the score into its parts. Each line compares one of the day's numbers with one of your own numbers:
Left: the two numbers being compared, for example "Personal Day 3 ↔ Life Path 9".
Bar: how well they fit. Full when they are the same number, 60% when they are friendly numbers (see Friendly numbers), and empty when they move to a different rhythm.
Right: the points this line gave, out of its maximum. Lines with a bigger maximum matter more.
Master numbers count by their root here: 11 as 2, 22 as 4 and 33 as 6.
The day's numbers
Personal Day: your own theme for the day, from your birth date and today's date. It changes daily and is different for everyone.
Universal Day: the shared theme of the day, from the date alone. It's the same for everyone, like the day's general weather.

Your own day and the shared day pull the same way, so plans tend to fit in with other people's.
Without a birth name, Expression and Soul Urge can't be calculated, so the Life Path takes their place in those lines.
When a bar is empty
An empty bar doesn't mean a bad day. It means that part of the day moves to a different rhythm from your numbers, so it may take more attention or patience. Days with several empty bars are often better for rest, reflection, finishing things and small adjustments than for big new starts. The Suggested today list shows what the day is traditionally good for.
Partner Harmony
Partner Harmony compares two saved profiles: usually yours and your partner's, but it works for friends, family or colleagues too. Add the other person with New in the Profile panel, then pick both on the Partner Harmony tab.
It compares two things, depending on what you chose to see with ⚙:
Numerology: the two Life Path numbers, the most important number in each chart. Master numbers are read by their root (11 as 2, 22 as 4, 33 as 6), with an extra note about the master number's gift.
Astrology: the two Sun signs. If someone was born on a cusp without a known birth time, the sign shown on their profile is used; choose it there to change it.
The reading
In love: how each person tends to love, and what they need.
Together: how the numbers and the signs get along, what each person brings and needs, what to watch out for, and a tip for the couple.
Combined score Numerology
When you see both, the score in the circle is the average of the numerology score and the astrology score, and the Influences list shows each half. Below it, the app says whether the two traditions agree:
Agree: both scores fall in the same level.
Both see a good match or both see work ahead: neighbouring levels on the same side, and the app says which tradition is warmer or more cautious.
Mostly agree: neighbouring levels, one on each side of the middle.
See it somewhat differently (two levels apart) or very differently (three levels apart). The two readings then explain each side.
Sign scores Numerology
Astrologers judge two signs mainly by how far apart they are around the zodiac. Each pair starts from that distance:
Number scores and levels Numerology
Each pair of Life Path numbers has its own score, from 25 to 93. Friendly numbers (see the Harmony section) score 75 or more. The same number scores 50 to 74: deep understanding, but also the same weak spots. Other pairs score 40 to 56, and the pairs that numerology books usually describe as difficult score 25 to 34. The level comes from the score, using the same bands as the Harmony score:
The table shows the score for every pair of Life Path numbers.
No score means a relationship will or won't work. The texts are the app's own summaries of how modern numerology and astrology books commonly describe these numbers and signs in relationships.

What Numerology adds
These parts are this app's own conventions, not from any tradition: the Harmony score and its weights, the lucky-number formula, the Birth hour number, the score labels, the wording of the core number readings and the sign, Moon and Rising descriptions, the Life Path constellation figures, the Partner Harmony levels, scores and texts (for both numbers and signs), the combined scores, the Sky score and its daily texts, and the short Suggested / Not suggested summaries. The friendly-number table and color lists follow common modern books, which disagree with each other in places.
